A Little HISTORY

The areas of current Belgium were inhabited since the paleolithic one. It is towards 500 front. J-c which place had the invasion of the Belgians, Celts coming from the North-West of Germanie.

57 before J-C Victory of César on the Belgians. During five centuries the country belongs to the Roman Empire.
Towards 480 ap. J-C. The territory of current Belgium is conquered by the Francs.

1477. Charles the Bold one, duke of Burgundy, takes évêché of Liége. His/her Marie daughter marries the future Maximilien emperor 1st, thus bringing to the private fields of the house of

1519-56. Charles Quint, grandson of Maximilien 1st, institutes courts of enquiry to fight against Protestantism. Economic apogee of Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels.

870. At the time of the division of the median kingdom by the treaty of Meerssen, the area in the east of the Scheldt returns to the Eastern kingdom: it is integrated into the duchy of Low Lotharingie (Low-Lorraine).

Little by little, it is formed practically independent political units: the Duchy of the Brabant, the counties of Flanders, of Hainaut, Limbourg and the Principality of Liege
963 the count Siegfried (Sigefroi) of the Ardennes melts the town of Lutzelbourg ("small manor house"), which will become Luxembourg, Dés 1060, its descendants will take the name of Counts de Luxembourg.
