ARTS

Architecture
At the time of the Romanesque art, the country is initially opened with the Rhenish influences: starting from XIIè century, it is the French inspiration which prevails.
Among the principal monuments of this time: the small church of Those, close to Dinant, that of St Barthélemy in Liege, the Collegial one of Soignies, to 15 km of Mons, and especially the Cathedral of Turned of XIIè century (ch.ur of the XIII' century).
The Gothic style created many wonders, in particular in Flanders: town halls of Audenaerde, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent and Leuwen, markets of Bruges and Ypres, the castle of the counts in Ghent, and among the famous churches, St Michel in Brussels, St Martin in Ypres, the Cathedral of Antwerp, St Rombaut in Malines, St Jacques in Liege and Ste Waudru in Mons
the rebirth which, in Belgium, does not continue that in the medium of XVIè century created inter alia the town hall and the Plantin house in Antwerp, and law courts to Malignant.
the time baroque (XVIIè century) produced several of the beautiful houses of the Corporations on the Town square of Brussels, the churches of the Jesuits in Antwerp and Malines, and the church of Béguinage in Brussels.
With the period baroque, the apogee of architecture in Belgium ends. Classicisme of the XVIII"still creates the beautiful whole of the royal Place of Brussels, then, in XIXè, they are Stock Exchange of Antwerp and Brussels, and the enormous Law courts of the capital.

Sculpture
Among chief-of uvre of the Romanesque art one will admire the "mounting of Our-Lady" of Nicolas de Verdun, in the treasure of the cathedral of Turned and the baptismal tank To disavow of Huy with St-Barthelemy de Liége.
There remains only little of the Gothic sculpture in Belgium. It is necessary to mention the sculptures of collegial Our-Darne with Huy and that of Our-Darne in Hal.
the largest sculptor of the rebirth was Cornélis Floris (see the gate vault of St-Léonard with Léau (Zoutleeuw) and jubé of the cathedral of Turned). After a short flowering at the time baroque, the Belgian sculpture knew a revival only in second half of XIXè' century, with Constantin Meunier.

Paintings
Gothic painting had its first apogee about 1400 in Flanders with the brothers van Eyck. Among the many significant painters of XVème century one thinks initially of Roger of Pasture (Rogen van der Weyden), in Thierry (Dirk) Botus de Haarlem and with the other Dutchman, Hugo van der Goes, in Hans Memling, originating in Mainz, with his successor Gerard David and the Netherlander Jerome (Hieronymus) Bosch, the Flemish rebirth starts with Quentin Metsys and Jan Mabuse: it finds its climax with Breughel the Old one and its school
painting baroque is entirely under the Sign of the large Pierre-Paul Rubens, with whom it Flemish art owes his most brilliant works. But of other painters illustrated XVIIIè century, whose Antoine van Dyck, raises of Rubens, Jacques Jordaens, David Teniers, Adrien Brouwer and Corneille of Your.
After the decline of painting with the XVIII"century, one needed the arrival of the French Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825), who lived in Brussels since 1816, to give him a new breath. Among the painters of XIXè, we will mention Antoine Wiertz (1806-65) and the Impressionist Alfred Stevens,
